Water Project

Last year, the Village board made the decision to join the United Regional Water Cooperative (URWC).  The URWC is a joint operation between the Village of Harristown, the Village of Illiopolis, the Village of Latham, the Village of Mt. Auburn, the Village of Niantic, and EJ Water Cooperative to build a new state-of-the-art water plant to service our respective water customers.  This new plant is being built just north of the Sangamon River on County Highway 22 (Illiopolis Road).  The plant is expected to become operational in 2022.  The new plant will provide long-term affordable and quality drinking water for all customers.  The Village of Mt. Auburn holds a seat on the board at URWC, and, as such, will be a voting member of the cooperative.

The Village will also continue with Phase 2 of our water project to replace the remaining water mains throughout the Village that were not replaced in Phase 1.  Construction for Phase 2 is expected to be completed this year. During water main replacement, there may be occasional instances when the quality of the water is not ideal.  If you experience extended periods of discolored water, please contact the Water Department at (217) 676-5251 or the Village Hall at (217) 676-2006.  We appreciate your patience during this time.
